Latin name:Trimorus cardanus
Vietnamese Name:Ong trimorus cardanus
Family:Scelionidae
Order:Hymenoptera
Class (Group):

Description:

Female: Head width greater than length by approximately 2 times, and as wide as the thorax. The vertex behind the posterior ocelli and the compound eyes are not abruptly curved and lack transverse ridges. The post-ocular area behind the compound eyes is wide, its width equal to 1/2 the width of the compound eye. The frons above the antennal sockets is not concave and lacks transverse striae. The posterior ocelli are positioned at a distance from the margin of the compound eye that is greater than twice the distance between the posterior ocelli and the anterior ocellus. The compound eyes are oval in shape, with a length greater than the width (22:14); the length of the compound eye is greater than the length of the cheek. The cheek has fan-shaped striae. The head has irregular nodular striae. The antennae are 12-segmented and clavate (club-shaped). The basal segment is approximately 3 times longer than wide and 3 times longer than antennal segment 2. Antennal segments 2 and 3 have equal lengths. Antennal segments 4, 5, and 6 progressively shorten and are shorter than antennal segment 3. Segment 6 is the smallest, with equal length and width. The antennal club consists of 6 segments, and the total length of the club segments is approximately 3 times greater than their greatest width and equals the length of the first antennal segment. The thorax has equal length and width. The anterior part of the mesoscutum is slightly elongated anteriorly, resembling a short neck. The mesoscutum lacks a median groove. The scutellum is rounded posteriorly, without spines. The metanotum is a narrow band, with a small triangular plate protruding in the middle. The propodeum is concave in the middle. The striae on the thorax are similar to those on the head. The forewing is 2.7 times longer than wide, and 2 times longer than the width of the thorax. The forewing has a reduced postmarginal vein, and the marginal vein is 5 times longer than the stigmal vein. The abdomen is 1.5 times longer than wide and as wide as the thorax. The first tergite is raised into a horn-like protuberance; this tergite is slightly shorter than its width (15:17). This tergite has longitudinal striae, and the horn is smooth and shiny. The second tergite is as long as the first tergite, is 2.4 times wider than long, has longitudinal striae covering the anterior 2/3 of the tergite, and the remaining part is smooth and shiny. The third tergite is wider and longer than the other tergites, with its width 2 times greater than its length, lacks striae, and is smooth and shiny. The remaining tergites are short and progressively narrowed, almost smooth and shiny. The ovipositor is not exposed. The body is reddish-yellow. The head is black. The 6 antennal club segments are black; the remaining antennal segments are reddish-yellow; there is a black patch in the middle of the mesoscutum. The wing veins are brown. The legs are yellow. The horn of the first tergite, the posterior part of the third tergite, and the subsequent abdominal tergites are dark brown to black.

Male: Similar in shape to the female. The antennae are 12-segmented and lack a club. Antennal segments 3-11 have a length that is approximately 3 times greater than their own width. Antennal segment 12 is longer than the preceding segment and has a length approximately 4 times greater than its width. The first abdominal segment lacks a horn. The body has a black head and antennae (the anterior part of the first antennal segment and the radicle are yellowish-brown), a black mesoscutum and scutellum, brown wing veins, and yellow legs.

Measurements:

Body length: 1.1 – 1.5 mm.

Distinguishing Features:

This species differs from other species of the genus in that the first abdominal segment of the female has a horn and in the body coloration.
