Adult Description:
The head, forehead, anterior neck, and breast are glossy black. The cheeks exhibit white patches. The rear and sides of the neck display a narrow white collar contrasting with the white parts of the breast and abdomen. The back, scapulars, tertials, and wing coverts are bronze-brown. The lower back is a darker brown. The flanks, uppertail coverts, and tail are white, with a broad black subterminal band near the tip of the tail. The outer tail feathers have two brown bars adjacent to the black band. The primary and secondary flight feathers are black.
The secondary flight feathers have white bases, this white area widening towards the outermost feathers, which are entirely white. The primary coverts are black. The greater coverts are white with black bases. The axillaries are white. The eyes are red or reddish-brown. The beak is red or orange, with a black tip. The legs are bright yellow. The eyelids and bare skin in front of the eyes are bright red.

Wing: 212 – 23 mm; Tail: 107 – 116 mm; Tarsus: 79 – 89 mm; Bill: 32 – 34 mm.
Distribution:
This species is distributed in Assam, Burma, Thailand, Southern China, Indochina, Malaysia, and Sumatra.
Vietnam: The species is found from Hà Tĩnh province southward to the South.
