Adult Plumage:
The head and crest are black, with a white border on the rear. The upper neck is grayish-brown, transitioning to light brown on the back, flanks, shoulders, inner wing coverts, and tertials. The tail is white. The base of the tail feathers is white, and the tips are black; the outer tail feathers have white tips. The primary coverts and primary feathers are white, with this white marking becoming more extensive towards the inner feathers, culminating in entirely white secondary feathers in the middle of the wing. The smaller outer wing coverts are black, while the medium and greater coverts are white. The upper chest is white, transitioning to greyish-brown on the lower chest and sides of the neck. The belly and undertail coverts are white. The plumage of juvenile birds is paler. The eyes are dark brown. The beak is black. The legs are brownish-black or reddish-black.
