Adult Bird:
The head and upperparts are greyish-brown. Brown spotting creates a longitudinal band down the center of the pale head, flanked by two darker bands. This is followed by a pale eyebrow stripe. The nape and back are greyish-brown, finely barred with dark brown. The wing coverts are similar in color, but with chestnut, white, and black markings. The underparts are brownish-buff, becoming pale white on the throat and belly. The sides of the breast and flanks have numerous curved black streaks, occasionally tinged with brown in places.
Female Bird:

Overall, the female is lighter in color, and the back has fewer, but more distinct and larger streaks. Eyes are white. The bill is horn-brown with a pale yellow base. The legs are yellow.
