Description:

Similar in coloration to other aquatic lizards, the lateral scales are raised and angled, and the dorsal scales are highly raised, followed by four distinct ridges along the tail.

Closer examination reveals that the limbs are smaller and cannot touch each other. Distinctive features of this species include prominently raised dorsal scales, large scales on the head that are either striped or wrinkled, separated scales on the forehead and snout, and two large scales located anterior to the cloaca. The ventral scales are yellow with light brown edges, and the subcaudal scales are light black with uneven yellow spots.

Habitat and Ecology:

This species is typically found in evergreen forests at elevations above 900 meters above sea level.

They forage during the day beneath leaf litter and decaying wood, near shallow wells and other water sources.

Distribution:

  • Vietnam: Kontum, Bù Gia Mập National Park – Bình Phước
  • Global: This is a species with a restricted distribution, only recorded in a few mountain peaks in northern Thailand.
