Adult Male:

The back, neck, head, and chest are greenish-gray, most pronounced on the upper back, tail, and undertail, with a yellowish-green tinge. The abdomen is tawny, transitioning to tawny-orange under the tail. The wing corners and upper back have large brown patches. The wing feathers are blackish-green with pale yellow edges. The tail feathers are grayish-green with black markings on either side.

Adult Female:

Lacks the brown patches on the wing corners and back. The back has a pale grayish tinge. The neck, head, and chest lack the gray coloration. Generally, the female is slightly more yellow than the male.

  • Eyes: Outer ring is red, inner ring is light blue.
  • Skin: Light blue at the base of the beak, in front of and around the eye.
  • Beak Tip: Gray.
  • Legs: Red.

Measurements:

  • Wing (male): 159 – 170 mm, (female): 150 – 167 mm;
  • Tail (male): 117 – 128 mm, (female): 108 – 118 mm;
  • Tarsus: 17 – 18 mm;
  • Beak: 16 – 19 mm.

Distribution:

This subspecies is distributed in Lower Laos, Central and Southern Vietnam. Specimens have been collected in Nghệ An (Phủ Quỳ), Thừa Thiên, Kontum (Đắc Tô), and Thủ Dầu Một.
