Adult Plumage:

  • Summer: Exhibits a summer plumage. A prominent black stripe extends from the front of the eye to the nape, encircling the crest. The crown is white. The upper back is grayish-brown. The tail is white. The first primary feathers are dark gray on the outer edge and light gray on the inner edge; the other primary feathers are very pale gray, with white inner webs. The underparts are white, tinged with pink.

  • Winter: The black stripe at the eye and nape is wider and more defined.

Juvenile Plumage:

  • The nape is brown, and the wing feathers are gray. The eyes are brown. The beak is black. The legs are black or dark brown.

Measurements:

  • Wing: 216 – 227 mm
  • Tail: 129 – 150 mm
  • Tarsus: 17 – 18 mm
  • Beak: 31 – 38 mm

Distribution:

  • This species is distributed in the Andaman Islands, the Malayan coast, and southern Indochina.
  • Vietnam: Found along the central coast and Bà Rịa province.
