Identification:
This is a small lizard species. Body length ranges from approximately 150-160 mm, with a tail length of around 171-210 mm. The head is short, and the upper jaw is beveled. The body has numerous small tubercles. The tail features two rows of small spines, resembling a crocodile’s tail. The limbs possess sharp claws. The dorsal surface is brownish-gray, sometimes with darker spots. The cheeks, sides of the neck, and ventral surface are off-white or light yellow, often with black spots. Fine, black lines extend from the eyes. During the breeding season, males typically exhibit orange-yellow coloration on the head and chin.
Biology and Ecology:
This species is arboreal, inhabiting areas along streams within evergreen forests at elevations of 600-800 meters. Peak activity occurs from April to May. Its diet consists of small insects found in its habitat.
Distribution:
- Vietnam: Found in the Yen Tu mountain range.
- Global: Also found in China.
