Identification:
The bats are small. Forearm length is 47-52 mm, tail length is 45-52 mm, hand length is 14-15 mm, and weight is 18-23 mm (based on 4 specimen bats). The dorsal side is brown; the ventral side is a lighter yellowish-brown. The ear opening has a narrow tympanic membrane that is long and curves forward. There is one upper molar. There are only two large, conical upper incisors.
Biology and Ecology:
They typically live in colonies of approximately 30 to several hundred individuals within the attics of houses or in hollow tree trunks and branches within forests. They are nocturnal, and their primary food source is mosquitoes and other small insects.
Distribution:
Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India to Taiwan, Southeast Asia, the Philippines, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Borneo, and are recorded in most provinces of Vietnam.
Value:
This is a rare species, with scientific, aesthetic, and ecological value (pest control by consuming harmful insects).
