Distinguishing Characteristics:

Bats are of medium size, with a body length of 50 – 105 mm. The dorsal (back) fur color ranges from olive-brown or reddish-brown to a lighter yellow on the ventral (belly) side. They have a tail length of 50 – 65 mm, an arm length of 55 – 68 mm, ear length of 17 – 20 mm, a foot length of 14 – 17 mm. The skull length is 15.8 – 21.4 mm, the zygomatic arch (cheekbone) width is 15.6 – 16.5 mm, and the mandible (jaw) length is 7.3 – 8.3 mm. The first canines on both sides are 9 – 10.5 mm long. Both canines and the third molars are 7.1 – 8.3 mm long.

Biology and Ecology:

This species lives in groups of 6 to 18 individuals, often roosting in the roofs of temples and pagodas. They are known to be quite noisy. They hang upside down from the ceiling of their roosts and deposit guano in thick layers. Their diet consists of mosquitoes and other insects.
