Adult Bird:
The crown, nape, back, and wings are dark brown. The primary feathers are pale black, with white inner webs, except for the first feather. The tips of the median and greater wing coverts are white, forming a broad white band across the wing. Some feathers on the shoulder are edged with white. The flanks, rump, and tail are white. The forehead, cheeks, a ring around the head, and the entire underside of the body are white.
Juvenile Bird:
Overall, the plumage is paler. The feathers on the upperparts are edged with pale rufous. The tail has a white tip. The eyes are brown. The beak is reddish-yellow-orange, with a yellow tip and a red base. The legs are bright red.

Distribution:
The species is distributed in large rivers of India, Myanmar, and Indochina.
Vietnam:
This species occurs in the Mekong River, Southern Vietnam.
