Identifying Characteristics:
The tragus is very low, wide, and not pointed. The intertragal notch is ‘V’ shaped.
The nose-leaf is small and narrow. The fur is uniformly light brown. The hairs have a light yellow base and a brown tip.
Biology and Ecology:
Hipposideros thomensis is often recorded in habitats near rivers, streams, ponds, and lakes; it roosts in tree canopies, caves, crevices, and bamboo/reed thickets.
Distribution:
- Vietnam: Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Bac Kan, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Dong Nai provinces.
- World: Myanmar, China, Thailand.
Value:
Controls mosquitoes and harmful insects. Of scientific and aesthetic value.
Status:
From 1993 to the present, Hipposideros thomensis has only been recorded in some areas of northern and central Vietnam and has not been recorded in the south.

Included in the IUCN Red List in 2000. Reduce bat hunting activities in areas where this bat species has been recorded.
