Adult Male:
A narrow black band starts from the forehead, extending to the front edge of the eye. Another, wider black band begins at the base of the lower beak and extends down the sides of the neck. The rest of the head is bluish-gray, with a hint of green before the eyes and on the feathers around the eyes. The back and sides of the neck are bright green. The back, shoulders, rump, and upper tail are greenish-yellow.
The central tail feathers are light bright blue, while the outer tail feathers are greenish with a slight blue hue, and the feather tips are slightly yellow. The wing coverts are yellow with a greenish hue. The flight feathers are blue with narrow yellow edges on the outer margin and pale black inner vanes edged with yellow. The chin is pale white; the throat and chest are reddish-orange. The belly is greenish-blue. The undertail is greenish-yellow.
Female:
The head is gray, duller, and often with a dark greenish hue. The chest is dark pinkish with a pale yellow hue, lacking the reddish coloration. The upper beak is black, and the eyes are pale yellow.
Juvenile:
The back is entirely green with some violet reflections on the head. The eyes are pale orange-yellow or pale yellow. Male juveniles have a bright red upper beak and a black lower beak. The legs are greenish-yellow or pale yellow.

- Tail (male): 168 – 189 mm, (female): 145 – 171 mm
- Tarsus: 16 – 17 mm
- Beak: 23 – 28 mm
Distribution:
The Red-breasted Parakeet is distributed in the Himalayas, eastern India, Burma, Thailand, southern China, and Indochina. In Vietnam, the Red-breasted Parakeet is found throughout the country, but is most abundant in the midlands and mountainous areas, especially in places with dense, tall trees.
