Identification:
This snake is of medium size. Its brown head features distinct stripes running lengthwise. The body length of this species is approximately 110 cm. A ridge extends from the eye to the snout. The eyes are large with round pupils. The cylindrical body has smooth, shiny scales. The body color is pale olive or tan, with four dark brown stripes with black borders running along its length.
Biology and Ecology:
This species primarily hunts lizards, frogs, and small rodents for food. The snake is terrestrial but is also a skilled climber. It prefers forests at elevations up to 1,900 meters. While its bite can cause swelling, it is not considered dangerous.
Distribution:
Vietnam: Ninh Thuan (Phan Rang).
Worldwide: This snake is found in the northern Central Plains and the northeastern regions of Thailand and Myanmar. It is also distributed in India, Laos, and Cambodia.
Status:
The population is very small and rarely encountered. In Vietnam, the species has only been observed at a few locations in Phan Rang – Ninh Thuan, making it a high-risk species.
