Identification:
This snake species is small in size. It has a small head and body, which are light brown in color with 10-12 dark brown crossbands along the body and tail, often accompanied by smaller spots. A dark brown stripe extends from the top of the head, passing through the eye and reaching the upper fifth of the lip; another stripe runs from the head to one-third of the belly. A heart-shaped marking is present on the neck. The belly is pink, transitioning to coral with two rows of brown, quadrilateral markings extending towards the underside of the tail.
Biology and Ecology:
- Pseudoxenodon barroni is widely distributed in lowlands and hills up to an elevation of 300 meters. It preys on amphibians commonly found within its range. This snake is nocturnal and is a non-venomous species, sometimes kept as an attractive pet.
Distribution:
- Vietnam: Khánh Hoà (Cầu Đá), Sông Bé (Lai Khê), Đồng Nai (Trảng Bom)
- Global: This species is also found in the southeastern provinces of Thailand, as well as Cambodia and Laos.
Conservation Status:
This species is rare and has a low population. Conservation measures are needed to protect this species and its natural habitat.
