Identification:
This is a small frog species within the Microhylidae family.
- Size: (SVL 18.3 – 23.6 mm)
- Head: Short, longer than wide (HL 8.19 – 9.7 mm, HW 7.42 – 8.04 mm), with a pointed snout.
- Body: Slender, elongated.
- Limbs: Slender; no webbing.
- Fingers: Lack webbing; finger tips possess well-developed adhesive discs. The first digit (I) is shorter than the second (II).
- Toes: Possess very small webbing; toe tips have developed discs. When the hind limbs are folded along the body, the tibio-tarsal articulation reaches or slightly surpasses the eye.
- Coloration: Dorsum is yellowish-brown or yellowish-gray. Some individuals have 6-15 large black spots on their back. A large black stripe extends from the snout, through the eye, to the armpit. The forelimbs and hind limbs are yellow with black borders. The belly and throat have irregular black and white blotches.
Biology and Ecology:
This species typically inhabits moist forest floors beneath leaf litter in evergreen forests or areas with bamboo. They are observed from April to June in relatively large numbers. The call is short and drawn-out, often heard after rain.
Diet:
The species feeds on small insects.
Distribution:
- Vietnam: Found in Ninh Binh, Hanoi (Ba Vi), Gia Lai, Dong Nai, Lam Dong, and Binh Phuoc provinces.
- Global: Also found in Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, and Thailand.
