Male Adult:

The upperparts are dark mahogany brown, transitioning to a pale rufous color on the head, neck, and underparts. The breast feathers have a pale rufous-white tip. The sides of the neck and shoulders are pale rufous with a steel-blue sheen. The chin is pale white. The flight feathers are dark brown, with pale rufous inner webs on the tertials. The tail has a rufous wash. The central tail feathers have dark brown tips, while the outer tail feathers have a rufous-brown base; between the dark brown and the tip, there is a narrow band of color that is lighter than the base. The undertail coverts are mahogany brown.

Female:

The head is less rufous than the male and generally darker; it lacks the steel-blue sheen. The breast feathers are pale brownish-black with rufous tips, giving the breast a mottled appearance of rufous and black. The feather edges on the upper back are narrowly edged with pale brown. The eyes are grey. The beak is brown. The legs are pale reddish-brown.
