Latin name:Lygosoma angeli
Vietnamese Name:Thằn lằn bóng thiên thần
Family:Scincidae
Order:Squamata
Class (Group):

Identification Characteristics:

The species is of medium size, with a tail approximately the same length as the body. The body is round and elongated, cylindrical in shape. The distance between the armpit and groin is 3.5–4 times the distance from the snout tip to the forelimb. The lower eyelid has scales. Scales are present on the snout, and these scales meet in the middle. The prefrontal scales are small and separate. The frontal scales are equal in length to the frontoparietal scale, with only one frontoparietal scale present. Two parietal scales are in contact behind the interparietal scale, and are much smaller than the frontoparietal scale. No nuchal scales are present. The temporal scales are undeveloped, and the external ear opening is only a small dot. There are seven supralabial scales, with the fourth or fourth and fifth scales located beneath the eye socket. The body is slender. There are 30 scale rows around the midbody, and the scales on the back are no larger than other scales. There are 110-115 dorsal scales along the spine, counted from the parietal scale to the corresponding position of the posterior edge of the hind limb. The limbs are very short, and the digits are of uniform size, including the toes, except for digit I. There are five lamellae under the fourth toe. The tail is thick at the base, approximately the same thickness as the body.

Ecological Habitat:

The species forages during the evening and early morning hours in areas with stacked boulders in evergreen forests up to 450m in altitude. They often live concealed beneath layers of decaying plant matter and in small rock crevices. Their primary food source is the larvae of ant species found in their distribution area. They have also been observed to occasionally consume grasshoppers.
