Adult Description:
The adult bird exhibits a mahogany brown coloration on the forehead, above the eyes, the sides of the head, chin, and throat. The back and wings are dark mahogany brown with very faint barring, with the feathers of the back, shoulders, and wings having pale white shafts. The flanks are slightly tinged with yellowish-grey. The tail is brown with yellow feather tips. The central tail feathers are brownish tinged with yellow, while the outer tail feathers are brown.
The underparts are pale white with mahogany brown markings, giving a scaled appearance, with a more uniform color in the center of the abdomen. The undertail coverts are pale white. Juvenile birds are a relatively uniform yellowish-brown, with a slightly darker back. The eyes are reddish-brown. The beak is grey-black or pale black. The legs are lead-grey.

Distribution:
This species is distributed in Southeast China (including Taiwan and Hainan), Thailand, and Indochina. In Vietnam, this species is relatively common throughout the plains and mountainous regions.
