Description:

Approximately 29 cm in length. The plumage is similar year-round to that of the great knot, but significantly smaller. It possesses a long, dark brown beak with a paler base and a slightly downturned tip. Its legs are pale blue. In flight, the underwings are white, contrasting with the barred tail. A long white stripe extends to the secondary feathers. The call is a high-pitched, sharp “ki-ic”.

Distribution:

Northeastern Vietnam (coastal areas of the Red River Delta). Habitats include intertidal mudflats along the coast.

Status:

Winter visitor. Uncommon.
