Description:

Approximately 46 cm in length. Medium size, with long and narrow wings.

Adult: The upperparts, including the wings and back, are dark gray, prominently barred with black. The tail is white. The bill is long, yellow with a red tip, and features a black ring on the tip (a black band encircling the end of the bill, resembling a ring). Legs are pale yellowish-green.

In winter, there are more dark streaks on the crown and nape.

First-year birds: Pale face, pale pink bill with a dark tip. The plumage is brown, contrasting with the black and white tail.

Juvenile: Dark brown upper back.

Distribution:

Northeast Vietnam (Red River Delta coastal region). This species typically inhabits coastal areas.

Status:

Migratory, rarely encountered.
