Description:

The shell of this large mussel is oval-shaped with a deep cavity in the hinge area and is very thick. The umbo region is inflated. The shell surface features numerous, closely spaced, rounded protuberances concentrated in the middle section, towards the dorsal side. The posterior dorsal region has 10-11 prominent ridge-like wrinkles. The anterior and ventral margins are curved, the posterior margin is rounded, and the dorsal margin is moderately curved. The shell surface is dark brown, and the nacre is a lustrous white.

Lives in sandy-mud substrates of rivers.

Distribution:

  • Vietnam: Found in the mountainous and midland regions of northeastern Vietnam (Lô River, Bằng River).
  • Global: This species has not been found anywhere else other than Vietnam.

Uses:

This species is endemic to Vietnam.

Conservation Status:

Restricted distribution. Threat level: R (Rare)
