Description:

Adult birds generally exhibit a rufous-brown plumage with narrow, black streaks along the body and on the upperparts. The underparts are light rufous-brown with narrow, brown bars and faint, elongated black streaks. The flanks have broad white streaks, and a horizontal band of white streaks is sometimes visible on the wing coverts. Juveniles resemble adults but have a more rufous coloration and smaller, fainter markings. The eyes are yellow. The beak is silky gray. The legs are gray.

Habitat and Ecology:

Resident in mountainous and lowland forest areas. Commonly found in dense thickets along streams, ponds, lakes, marshes, and other aquatic habitats.

Distribution:

  • Vietnam: Throughout the country. Observations and specimens collected in Bắc Thái, Lạng Sơn, Vĩnh Phú, Hòa Bình, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Trị, Gia Lai, Kontum, and Đồng Nai.
  • World: Northeastern Myanmar, Southern China, Northern Thailand, and Indochina.
