Adult Description:

  • Head: Crown black. Nape colored similarly, with a white stripe. Ears and eye ring black.
  • Shoulders: Pale chestnut.
  • Back and Uppertail: Fresh purplish-brown.
  • Wing Coverts:
    • Small and medium coverts black with gray tips.
    • Large coverts black with purplish-brown tips.
  • Flight Feathers: Black with pale gray edges; tertiary feathers edged with purplish-brown.
  • Tail: Black with white tips, the white increasing in size towards the outer feathers.
  • Underparts: White, except for the lower belly, flanks, and undertail coverts, which are chestnut.

Other Features:

  • Eyes: Reddish-brown.
  • Beak: Black with a yellow base.
  • Legs: Yellow.

  • Tail: 85 mm
  • Tarsus: 24 mm
  • Bill: 15 mm

Distribution:

This species is distributed in Myanmar, southwestern China (Yunnan), northern Laos, and northern Vietnam. Specimens have been collected in Lào Cai, Vietnam and recently found in the Di Linh Plateau, Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park, Lam Dong, Vietnam.
