Adult Male:

Head and nape golden yellow, the sides of the neck, chin, throat, and upper breast of a similar color but more intensely yellow. Back, shoulders, rump, upper tail coverts, and central tail feathers are bright chestnut-brown, with black tips on the tail feathers. The outer three pairs of tail feathers have black bases and white tips, while the two intermediate pairs are black. Wing coverts and tertials are black with white barring, and the greater coverts are white. Primary and secondary feathers are black with white edging on the outer margins. The underparts are orange-yellow, becoming paler on the belly.

Adult Female:

Dorsum brownish-yellow tinged with chestnut; the upper tail coverts are paler and more chestnut. White barring on the wings is replaced by chestnut barring. Chin, throat, and upper breast are greenish-yellow tinged with gray. The remainder of the underparts is yellow, with an orange-yellow tinge on the breast. The tail is as in the male.

General:

Eyes are dark brown. The skin around the eye is blue. The bill is bluish-red, with a pale black ridge and edges. Legs are pale bluish-green.

Distribution:

This species is found in Thailand, Indochina, and Malaysia.

Vietnam:

This species is commonly found in old-growth forests from Kontum southwards to the end of the South.
