Adult Male:
Generally similar to the Harpactes erythrocephalus annamensis subspecies, but with slightly darker overall plumage. The reddish color on the belly has a subtle buffy hue, and the brown coloration on the back is darker, though with less rufous. Wing barring is finer. Larger in size.
Measurements:
Wing: 137 – 167 mm; Tail: 180 – 185 mm; Tarsus: 17 – 18 mm; Bill: 17 – 18 mm.
Distribution:
This subspecies is found in northern Laos and northern Vietnam, north of Thanh Hóa province.
