Adult Bird Description:

The adult bird exhibits a brown back, with a reddish-brown tinge on the back and sides of the neck. A black stripe extends from in front of the eye, and a narrow black stripe below the eye stretches to the sides of the neck, then curves down to the throat, forming a narrow ring. The flanks and shorter upper tail coverts are white. The longer tail feathers are brown with pale edges. The tail is black with a white base. The chin, throat, and neck ring are pale reddish-brown. The breast is reddish-brown, transitioning to a lighter reddish-brown on the lower breast and becoming white on the belly and undertail coverts. The lesser, median, and axillary wing coverts are reddish-brown. The eyes are dark brown. The beak is black, with a pale red edge. The legs are pale black.

Distribution:

The species is distributed in India, Myanmar, China, Southeastern Soviet Union, Indochina, and Malaysia.

In Vietnam: This species is found throughout the plains as well as mountainous regions. They often gather in flocks of up to several hundred individuals.
