Adult Bird:
The adult bird has a white patch in front of the eyes and a ring around the dark eye. The entire back is gray, slightly tinged with buff and brown on the forehead. The shoulders, innermost secondary feathers, and median wing coverts are grayish-chestnut, with white tips on the outermost feathers. The greater and primary coverts are black, the outermost two or three having a white streak on the outer web, sometimes extending to the innermost feathers. The secondary feathers are white with black tips.
The tail is white with a broad black band near the tip. The chin, throat, upper breast, and upper breast are pale buff-yellow, transitioning to pale gray on the lower breast and flanks. The belly and undertail coverts are white. The axillaries and underwings are black.
Juvenile Bird:
The juvenile bird’s belly feathers are edged with pale buff-yellow, and the belly and upper breast have pale black streaks. The eyes are dark brown. The beak is black with a red base and yellowish at the gape. The legs are dark brown or black.

- Beak: 9 – 10 mm
Distribution:
The species is distributed in Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, and Thailand.
Vietnam:
This species is found along the large riverbanks of the South.
