Adult Description:

The adult bird exhibits the following characteristics:

  • Long crest feathers on the head, crown, and face.
  • Pure white underparts.
  • Gray nape and sides of the neck.
  • Black area in front of the eye, forehead, and a broad stripe extending across the ears.
  • Chestnut-brown flanks.
  • The remainder of the plumage is brown, with a reddish-brown tinge on the back, and a gray-brown-black tail.
  • Brown or reddish-brown eyes.
  • Black beak.
  • Dark gray legs.

Measurements:

  • Wing: 120 – 146 mm
  • Tail: 115 – 138 mm
  • Tarsus (leg): 38 – 48 mm
  • Beak: 25 – 30 mm

Distribution:

The White-crested Laughingthrush is distributed in southern China and Indochina. In Vietnam, it is quite common in all mountainous forest regions from north to south.
