Description:

Adults have a pale greyish-black forehead, crown, and ear coverts. The tail and wing patches are dark. The chin and throat are pale black. The rest of the plumage is yellowish-brown with dark brown streaks, transitioning to pale greyish-green on the lower back, flanks, upper and under tail coverts. The eyes are brown, the beak is black, and the legs are dark grey.

Resident and nesting in scrub forests at altitudes from approximately 2100m in northwestern Vietnam.

Distribution:

Conservation Status:

Its natural habitat is shrinking and impacted by the shifting cultivation practices of ethnic minorities in the northern highlands of Vietnam (Hmong, Man). Their numbers are decreasing and the species is rare. Threat level: R (Rare).

It is necessary to plan, manage, and protect the high mountain forest area of Hoang Lien Son (from about 1400m and above). Stabilizing the settled life of the ethnic groups in the area. Ending the situation of cutting down, burning forests, and indiscriminate hunting.
