Identification:

This snake species is small, exhibits a distinct yellow and black color pattern, and lacks a distinct group of markings for easy identification. The patterns vary greatly, predominantly yellow and black, with some individuals displaying brown coloration. It possesses a long snout and a flattened body and tail. It is easily mistaken for Hydrophis ornatus.

Biology and Ecology:

This sea snake primarily preys on fish that congregate near the water’s surface. Each litter typically consists of 2-6 offspring, born in the spring. This species is venomous and poses a potentially fatal threat. They are frequently observed near floating debris on the ocean’s surface. Occasionally, they are also encountered near coastlines. This is a highly dangerous venomous snake.

  • Global: This is the most common sea snake species and is widely distributed throughout the warm waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, including off the coasts of Thailand, West Malaysia, and Singapore.
