Identifying Characteristics:
- Small size. Maximum SVL (snout-vent length) reaches 75.3 mm.
- The dorsal surface exhibits 4 to 5 dark transverse bands between the forelimbs and hindlimbs.
- A single band encircles the nape and terminates at the posterior margin of the eye.
- The dorsal surface of the head, body, hindlimbs, and base of the tail are covered in tubercles (small, wart-like bumps).
- 34-40 ventral scales across the mid-body.
- No lateral skin folds.
- 20-28 precloacal and femoral pores arranged in a line in males.
- Enlarged femoral and precloacal scales.
- 5-8 postcloacal spines in both males and females.
- 17-21 subdigital lamellae (scales under the toes) on the fourth toe of the hind foot.
- Subcaudal scales (scales under the tail) are transversely expanded.
Biology and Ecology:
- Nocturnal reptile species, typically inhabiting evergreen forest areas, rocky mountains, and caves, emerging only at night.
- Feeds on insects found within their habitat.
- Lays two eggs in crevices in rock faces at the beginning of the rainy season each year.
Distribution:
- Endemic to Vietnam, recently discovered in rocky mountainous forests surrounding Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh province.
