Description:
A large mussel with a thick, elongated oval shell, pointed at the anterior end. The anterior and ventral edges are evenly curved. The outer shell surface is dark brown with coarse growth lines. The nacre (mother-of-pearl) exhibits a pink iridescence with various colors.

Inhabits sandy and muddy substrates of riverbeds, ponds, and lakes.
Distribution:
- Vietnam: Rivers, lakes, and ponds in the Red River Delta and the midlands of Northern Vietnam.
- Worldwide: East Asia, from the Amur River to Northern Vietnam.
Uses:
The shell is used in mother-of-pearl inlay in woodworking.
Conservation Status:
Currently over-exploited. Threat level: Vulnerable (Level V).

Seasonal and regulated harvesting. Research into aquaculture (farming). Restriction of exploitation.
