Adult Plumage:

The adult bird presents with black lores, cheeks, and ear coverts. The dorsal plumage is dark gray. The flanks and uppertail coverts are slightly paler. The flight feathers are dusky black with pale gray edges. The central tail feathers are brownish-black with a narrow white tip. The lateral tail feathers are black with white tips. The chin, throat, and breast are gray, gradually fading to pale gray on the belly and undertail coverts.

Female and Juvenile Plumage:

The female and juvenile birds have dark eye stripes and cheek stripes. The underparts are streaked.

Irides and Bill:

The irises are brown or reddish-brown. The bill and legs are black.

Measurements:

  • Wing: 170 – 190 mm
  • Tail: 92 – 128 mm
  • Tarsus: 25 – 29 mm
  • Bill: 25 – 30 mm

Distribution:

This subspecies is distributed in southern China and northern Indochina. In Vietnam, it has been found in Bắc Thái, Vĩnh Phú, Lào Cai, Thanh Hoá, and Bù Gia Mập National Park – Bình Phước, according to Hoàng Minh Đức.
