Adult Characteristics:

  • Dorsal plumage: Light brownish-black. Wings, tail, and crown are darker. A broad gray band across the flanks, with feathers having black streaks.
  • Ventral plumage: Brownish, tinged with gray.
  • Juvenile birds: Darker feather shafts on the underside.
  • Tarsi: Bare.
  • Eyes: Brown.
  • Beak: Black.
  • Feet: Brown.

Distribution:

The species is distributed in Southeast Thailand, Malaysia, and Indochina. In Vietnam, this species is frequently found nesting on cliffs in coastal caves such as Ha Long Bay, Dong Hoi, Qui Nhon, Cu Lao Cham, Nha Trang, Con Lon, and Phu Quoc. Swiftlet nests are a valuable food source.
