Identification:
Large-nosed bat species, with a forearm length of 43-47 mm. Tail absent. The nose leaf has a long, narrow lappet extending above an additional lateral leaf. The fur is long and soft. The interfemoral membrane (uropatagium) is well-developed despite the absence of a tail. Ears are short, rounded, and covered in hair. Total length (T.L.): 75 mm. Forearm length (F.L.): 43-47 mm.
Biology and Ecology:
Found roosting in the roofs of remote pagodas and caves. Limited research data is available on this species. Their diet consists of insects found in their distribution area.
Distribution:
- Vietnam: Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa (Hoi Xuan).
- World: Bay of Bengal, Thailand, Indochina, Taiwan, Malaysia, Java.
Value:
Significant scientific value. Indochina can be considered the origin and center of diversification for this species, from which it has spread towards the Northwest and Southeast.
Conservation Status:
Rarely encountered in Vietnam. Possesses value for scientific research, aesthetics, and the control of harmful insects in nature.
Recommended Conservation Measures:
Prohibit the capture of bats in pagodas and caves in the Northwest region of Vietnam.
