Latin name:Cnemaspis nuicamensis
Vietnamese Name:Tắc kè núi cấm
Family:Gekkonidae
Order:Squamata
Class (Group):

Diagnostic Features:

Adults have a maximum SVL (snout-vent length) of approximately 42.2 mm. There are 8-9 supralabial scales, and 6 or 7 infralabial scales. 3-6 precloacal scales bear pores, separated by 1-4 poreless scales. Ventral scales are smooth. Femoral and sub-tibial scales are large and plate-like. There are 16-21 dorsal tubercles along the vertebral column between the forelimbs and hindlimbs. Tubercles on the flanks are arranged in rows. Multiple rows of tubercles are present on the tail, running along the vertebral column but not encircling the tail. Subcaudal scales are smooth, not greatly enlarged, and arranged in rows. 2-4 postcloacal tubercles are present on each side at the base of the tail. Femoral and sub-tibial scales are not greatly enlarged. Sub-tibial scales are smooth. The subdigital scales of the first digit of the forelimb are not greatly enlarged. There are 27-33 lamellae under the fourth toe of the hindlimb.

Coloration:

The dorsal surface is a dull yellow with large reddish-brown blotches and black spots along the vertebral column. The top of the head and snout exhibit a reddish-brown reticulated pattern, surrounding dull white markings. The top of the head has scattered black spots. Posterior to the eye, there are 3 thin reddish-brown stripes, with a white border that does not extend to the shoulder. The limbs have reddish-brown stripes alternating with pale yellow stripes. The reddish-brown stripes on the tail are indistinct. The ventral surface is gray and without spots.

Biology and Ecology:

The species inhabits rock crevices in low-lying karst forests, at elevations ranging from 10-250 m. They are diurnal, feeding on insects found in their habitat. They lay two eggs in rock crevices or tree hollows at the beginning of the annual rainy season.

Distribution:

Endemic to Vietnam, first discovered in 2007 in the karst forest region of Nui Cam Mountain, An Giang Province.
