Description:

Length: 43 – 51 cm.

Adult male: Head plumage gray, wing feather tips black, flanks grayish-white, body grayish-white.

Female and juvenile: Plumage barred black and white: tail bands distinctly white and pale black. Facial disc similar to owls; underwing barring and tail barring prominent, white and grayish-brown. Upper breast more heavily streaked with black compared to the Eurasian hobby ( Falco subbuteo).

Distribution:

Southern Vietnam.

Status:

A winter visitor, rare, observed up to an altitude of 1,500 meters.

Habitat:

Open areas.
