Description:
Approximately 15 cm in length. Distinguished from other sandpipers by its unique, spoon-shaped bill, which is difficult to see from the side. Often found in flocks with the Red-necked Stint. This bird is very active when foraging and commonly scurries around the spaces between other, slower-feeding or resting species. Its plumage resembles the Red-necked Stint. Outside of breeding season, the plumage is gray and white, resembling a smaller version of the Grey Phalarope.
Distribution:
Found in Xuân Thủy National Park, in the coastal region of Nghĩa Hưng district, Nam Định province. Its habitat consists of intertidal mudflats along the coast.
Status:
A wintering species. Rare. Classified as Vulnerable (VU) globally (Collar et al. 1994).
