Description:
The bird is 21 cm long and has plain plumage. During the breeding season, the breast is a heavily mottled, brownish-yellow. The upperparts are silvery gray, and the crown is light pinkish-brown. Outside of the breeding season, the bird is dull gray, with indistinct underparts, and resembles a long-toed stint.
Juveniles are very pale, with an orange breast and fine streaks on the lower throat. The year-round plumage is brighter than that of Calidris melanotos, particularly on the crown and back.
Distribution:
Coastal areas of the Red River Delta. Habitats include intertidal mudflats and coastal wetlands.
Status:
Winter visitor. Uncommon.
