The forehead and the front of the crown have a few white streaks; the remainder of the back is brown and rufous streaked. The tail has a pale rufous-white tip, with the central tail feathers being rufous. The middle portion of these feathers has black extending in short bands to either side. Towards the outer tail feathers, the rufous color increases while the black color diminishes, becoming narrow bands. The tips of the primary wing feathers are brown. The undertail coverts are white or pale yellow with black streaks.

The rufous streaks are more prominent, and there is more brown streaking on the back and more rufous coloration on the tail. The eyes are brown or gray. The beak is pale yellowish-green, with a dark gray ridge and tip, and yellow edges. The legs are pale grayish-green.
