Adult Bird:
The head, neck, and upper back are ash-gray, with dark-colored feathers on the body. The back and wing coverts are grayish-brown, tinged with reddish-brown, which gradually darkens and becomes more reddish-brown towards the flanks and upper tail. The tail is dark reddish-brown with a pale gray tip, a pale black band near the tip, and two or three narrow, black bands. The wing edges are white. The primary and outer wing coverts are reddish-brown with brown tips. The flight feathers are bright yellowish-red, edged with pale brown on the outer edges and tips, and have a broad white stripe with black stripes at the base of the inner vane. The tertials are similar in color to the back. The underparts are ash-gray, with varying degrees of brown. The undertail coverts are pure white or slightly tinged with reddish-brown, with gray streaks and stripes on the abdomen.
Juvenile Bird:
The head and neck are pale reddish-brown, with feathers edged in a lighter color. The forehead is pale, and the eyebrows are pale white. The back is generally darker and has numerous pale black streaks. The wing coverts have many white streaks and stripes. The chin and throat are white, with brown sides. The underparts are pale gray with narrow black streaks and occasionally a few indistinct white stripes. The thighs and undertail coverts are white. The eyes are yellow. The beak is orange-yellow with a black tip. The base of the beak and the edges are yellow. The legs are orange-yellow.

Distribution:
The Grey-faced Buzzard is distributed in Myanmar, Thailand, Yunnan, Indochina, Borneo, Java, and Sulawesi. In Vietnam, this species has only been recorded in the South.
