Identification:

Adults are very large, with a body length of approximately 1.87 cm and a weight of 1.6 kg. The head and elongated body of this snake are olive green, with a pale gray or pale green dorsal coloration; the ventral side is pale yellow anteriorly and pale white posteriorly. The chin and throat are white with a pale green hue. Ventral scales have indistinct lateral lines.

Biology and Ecology:

The diet of this species consists of small birds and other snakes. Females lay 4-13 eggs; hatchlings are pale brown, pale red, or pink, and may have dark brown transverse stripes, with a length of about 35 cm. This attractively colored snake lives in forests up to 2,100 meters in altitude. They are occasionally observed foraging on the ground at night.

Distribution:

Vietnam: Gia Lai (Sơklang), Đắk Lắk (Ea Káo), Sông Bé (An Lộc), Đồng Nai (Trảng Bom), Ho Chi Minh City.

Worldwide: Southern Thailand to Phuket Island, as well as Assam, Myanmar, Southern China, Laos, Nepal, and Cambodia.

Conservation Status:

The population is small and heavily hunted. Conservation measures are needed, including a ban on hunting and exploitation of their natural habitat.
