Identification:

  • Shell Morphology: Fan-shaped to triangular, broad, reaching up to 40 cm in length and 20 cm or more in width, with a rounded lower margin. Both shell valves bulge outwards from the margin towards the center. The shell surface is smooth or exhibits concentric ridges and radiating scale-like markings. A large muscle scar is present inside the shell, running along the posterior margin. The shell color is typically reddish-brown or dark brown.

Biology and Ecology:

  • Habitat: Commonly found in coral reefs or on clean sandy bottoms.
  • Depth Range: Distributed from the intertidal zone to a depth of 20 meters.
