Adult Characteristics:

This subspecies of the Grey-breasted Prinia differs from the previous subspecies in that it has a forehead and the sides of the crown that are varying degrees of tawny brown, sometimes with a yellowish tinge. Overall, these areas are darker and brighter. The throat is pale yellowish-white with black speckles. Significant variation exists among individuals within the population regarding the intensity of color (light or dark) on the head and chest, as well as the distinctness of the markings. The eyes are brown. The skin around the eyes and the throat is red. The beak is black. The legs are a bright pink.

Measurements:

  • Male: Wing: 135 – 154 mm; Tail: 65 – 72 mm; Tarsus: 35 – 38 mm; Bill: 18 – 20 mm.
  • Female: Wing: 140 – 152 mm; Tail: 63 – 68 mm; Tarsus: 35 – 37 mm; Bill: 18 – 20 mm.

Distribution:

The Yellow-throated Prinia ( Prinia flaviventris ) is distributed in Laos and Vietnam. In Vietnam, this subspecies has been observed in: Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Bac Kan, Vinh Phu (Tam Dao), Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, and Quang Nam (Hai Van).
